Job Centre Plus - Job Hunting Questions

Job Hunting / FAQ's / Questions / Support
(Keywords: help page, customer support, faq, faqs, job centre plus help, job centre uk)

Here are some of the most common questions asked when hunting for jobs online.

We have tried our best to provide the widest range of questions which maybe asked on our website. If you don't find the answer to your question here, why not search our website using the search box at the top of this page by typing in your question.

Do I HAVE to provide a CV to potential employee's?

Unless you are the extremely lucky 2-3% of the population who can achieve a job by word of mouth of impressing potential employer's without trying then no. Otherwise, Yes. A CV is vital in the first step to Job Hunting. Having a good CV prepared is a massive tool which will boost your first steps considerably. You can design your own CV, which must contain important information about yourself including Name, Address, Date of Birth, Dependants, Work History, Qualifications and other history all about yourself. It is basically an invitation card to your potential future employer, so make sure it's laid out correctly, it contains information all about you! Make it impressive, don't lie on your CV and ensure it is presentable and error free from grammar or spelling mistakes.

We have a section dedicated on How To Impress on our website.

Interviews!

Everybody knows a Job Interview is one of the closest, if not, THE closest opportunity to getting the job. Once invited for an interview you are about 90% complete on that job application. The same rules apply to you in the human form as it would in a CV. Keep pride with the way you dress, the way you come across and the answers you give. We have a more in-depth page for Job Interview Tips.

How do I 'Search For a Job'?

You may use our Job Search page to search and look for relevant jobs in your area or anywhere in the UK. It will bring up various pages from our website and external websites that are relevant to your search term. You don't have to just use the JobCentre Plus UK website to look for work. You can use the local and national newspapers and use the machines inside your local Job Centre Plus to look for vacancies.

What about further education or training programmes?

We currently do not provide much information on Further Education or Training Programmes inside the UK. We will be obtaining and publishing more information on Further Education and Training Programmes in the next 12 months on our website. But at the time of writing this, we do not currently list any. Please expect more information on Further Education and Training Programmes to commence in September 2010.

If you currently want more information on Further Education we recommend here.

What is right for me? A Career or More Education?

You can choose between public funded education as in Training Programmes, or you can choose to attend University, College or Private Education and Qualifications. The choice is completely yours. We will not recommend any of these because everybody's situation and current circumstances is completely different. Depending on your prospects you could already be in gear for a good career, or maybe you need those extra qualifications not just for the formality of having them but for the experience and education contained within them. We recommend looking at as much information regarding all routes available before deciding.
